Who should apply?

If your projects for next year have any of the following characteristics, please make sure to complete the project application form.

* Your project will require more dedicated CDH staff time than would normally be available to you through our DTA or ITC programs.

* You are currently working on a project with us that is not yet complete (please complete the renewal application).

* Your project will make significant use of technological resources (large amounts of server space, needs database server, dynamic website resources etc).

* Your project is likely to require a substantial amount of CDH staff time (ca. 40 hours or more) during any quarter of 2005-2006.

* You are applying this year for intramural (such as OID) or extramural funds to carry out a project that will require collaboration next year with CDH, even if only in the form of our providing server resources.

* You plan to write a grant application in 2005-2006 and require CDH assistance in writing it. We'd like to talk to you as early as possible in the grant application process.

* You already have some grant funding and wish CDH to collaborate with you on developing a project

* Your project has an intended audience that is beyond the scope of UCLA (recent projects have included faculty and students at other universities, and LAUSD teachers).

* Your project will require the use of "dynamic" web pages that make use of scripting or programming languages such as php, asp, perl etc.

* Your project requires use of a server database (such as SQL server or MySQL) as opposed to a desktop database (such as FoxPro or Access).

Again, if your project has any one of the above characteristics, you should fill out the application form.

If in doubt, please don't hesitate to ask any CDH staff member.

What is the Experimental Instructional Materials Repository?

In collaboration with the UCLA Digital Library Program, we are interested in proposals for packaging online instructional materials in order to add them to the experimental UCLA Instructional Materials Repository. Packaging involves structuring materials in compliance with standards and adding descriptive metadata, thus making electronic materials shareable and reusable. Such materials could be quizzes, exercises, simulations, demonstrations, video or audio clips etc. We are interested in hearing about projects that would involve packaging of already existing collections of online materials as well as proposals for developing new collections. As part of this collaboration, funds may be available to support graduate student researchers who will work on the packaging tasks.

What kinds of collaboration or support can I expect from CDH?

In 2003-2004, we received some 28 applications from faculty, graduate students and staff. Almost all of them received support of one form or other, ranging from advice about software, to training, to development work by our programmers. Even in the case of projects that we cannot directly work on, we will seek to provide information about other resources on campus or alternative ways in which the project could be pursued.  In 2004-2005, we received approximately 24 applications.  You may see sample successful applications by clicking here
