Suyun Kim is a student who came to the United States to study English so therefore, Suyun knew a lot of places in Korea that made delicious dduk bok yi and she said her favorite place is at Shin Chon. Suyun mentioned the famous “shin dang dong dduk bok yi” is really good. The dduk bok yi is a very famous student food and there are numerous famous places in front of famous college campuses. Suyun said usually Korean female students are more in favor of dduk bok yi then male students. She also mentioned that there are just so many places in Ehwa University which are not restaurants, but like a little pojang ma cha that sells really good dduk bok yi. Suyun pointed that many dduk bok yi restaurants use dduk that are made of flour rather than rice, which make the cost of ingredients cheaper. When Suyun makes dduk bok yi at home, she has her own recipe. She doesn’t like to cook it to spicy because she has an ulcer. The ingredients are minimal and instead of the red bean paste, Suyun puts soy sauce. First, she puts some ginger and soy sauce with a little bit of oil in the frying pan, then she adds the dduk. One thing she also pointed out is that rice cake doesn’t digest too well so therefore, she uses jo raeng e dduk, which is a rice cake that is formed like a little rice ball. She then adds thin slices of fish cake and some sugar in the dduk bok yi. The dduk bok yi was a bit out of the ordinary in that it didn’t use the long dduk bok yi and it didn’t contain the color red or the spiciness at all.
